I humbly submit my Letter of Intent with the goal of achieving admittance into the Bachelor of Education degree program at Thompson Rivers University (TRU), commencing in September 2019.  I have been interested in pursuing my studies in elementary education for a long time and I believe I would be an excellent candidate for this program.

My personal life experiences have contributed greatly to my desire to become a teacher.  I have always wanted to become a teacher and I genuinely believe that teaching is my calling.  I love working with youth and I feel energized by their enthusiasm and desire to learn.  I find it fulfilling to watch a student learn something new, make progress in an area, and constantly improve.   It is especially rewarding to me to feel like I was a large part of that learning.  I enjoy problem-solving and finding new ways to teach concepts to children who may not understand them right away and require additional support.  Working with students teaches me something new every day and inspires me to do better for them.  Being a positive role model for students is important to me. I am inspired by amazing teachers I have had in my life, including my mother and grandmother.  I want to be the kind of teacher that my students will remember.  In my experience, the most memorable teachers were the ones who were available inside and outside of class time, the ones who were genuinely excited about coming into the classroom each day, and the ones who took the time to help those in need even if they required more time.  I would love the opportunity to provide my students with the outstanding mentorship I received and to inspire their love for lifelong learning.  I believe an education is the best pathway to help students have a successful life and I am excited to help them become educated, contributing citizens in our society.

There are many benefits in achieving a Bachelor of Education degree from TRU. Kamloops is my hometown and I am very proud of our community.  I previously completed three years of education at TRU and greatly enjoyed my experience at our university.  I found the education I received here to be excellent and my instructors were always personable, approachable, and helpful.  My mother also completed her Bachelor of Education degree at TRU and she has always shared that this program provided her with excellent preparation for her career as an educator.  I feel a sense of pride following in her footsteps as I have seen firsthand her success as an amazing educator trained by TRU.

I would like to add some additional information that I believe supports my candidacy for this program.  I am a caring and compassionate person who loves teaching and is passionate about learning.  I strive to create constructive experiences that encourage inquiry, critical and creative thinking, collaboration, problem solving, discussion, and reflection.  I celebrate and recognize that every student has diverse needs, interests, and abilities and value an inclusive worldview.  I have excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills and a strong work ethic.  I am always looking for ways to reflect and improve and I try to stay current with the latest research regarding best practices.

I am excited by the opportunity to further my education and career opportunities by completing a Bachelor of Education degree through Thompson Rivers University. Thank you for your consideration.

Reflecting on my Bachelor of Education Letter of Intent was very informative for me at this point in my educative career.  Looking back on it now, I still align with everything I stated within it, only now that I’m in the program, I’m even more excited about the future.  I feel very fortunate to have spent my first year in this program with the people that I did it with.  Both instructors and classmates have been tremendous to work with and learn from.  I am very excited to move into a career as a teacher, especially after my experiences in practicum.

When reflecting on my coursework, it is quite clear that it is criminology focussed.  It is a subject I am passionate about and want to continue to learn about throughout my life.  I feel like there are various ways to tie that knowledge into my everyday life, and ultimately into the classroom that I will one day teach in.  In the Bachelor of Education program, I have been introduced to new topics such as philosophy, child psychology, and more.  This has continued to pique my interest about what we will learn about next, and how I will be able to implement that learning into my future career.  Further, I was reflecting on my journey from TRU to SFU and back to TRU.  I feel very blessed to have been able to study at various institutions and learn from instructors and peers with such diverse backgrounds.  I am very happy that I could complete coursework that I was extremely interested in and that I’ve found a career where I will be able to utilize all of my learned knowledge.
